About Australian Handcrafted Directory

about us handcrafted collective

The Handcrafted Collective Directory and Handmade Business Hub - for sewers, knitters, crocheters and crafters to showcase your wares to the very people who are looking for you, whilst building a platform to further grow your business.

Aloha and welcome to The Handcrafted Collective (THC). I am Katie Gregory and creating is my passion second to my gorgeous little family, there is my ever-supportive Husband Sam, my baby boy (he will kill me for writing that) Ethan, my ballerina girl Jade and our littlest cutie pie member Henry.

Creating came into my life by the form of sewing. I had previously purchased a brand-new sewing machine and left it sitting in the box for two years. Going on maternity leave was about to be the best excuse to finally get some sewing lessons in and stop being afraid. I found a local lady who taught everything from the basics right through to advanced, I needed the basics of basics as I didn’t even know how to thread my machine! I finished my course and produced the cutest of baby blankets ready for our bub 2 be. 2014 was a big milestone year for me, I had just had my 3 rd baby, was made redundant from my position at work and was diagnosed with two chronic illnesses, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. I knew returning to the workforce outside of my home was going to be near on impossible.

Towards the end of 2014 I decided I would commence my own handmade sewing business Twinkle Boo. Oh how I loved it, I felt alive and seeing someone smile because they loved my work, an item that I had created myself had me hooked. I spent the next year attending every market I could get into. It was a great strain on my family and I was in constant pain.

Whilst I dearly loved my business, I needed to find a better way to promote it and reach my target audience without the added strain of markets. This lead to The Handcrafted Collective becoming a reality instead of just a dream. A creative hub for handmade businesses to showcase their wares to the people who want to see them most.

Our Australian and International Handcrafted Directory is a curated collection of sewers, handmaidens, pattern creators and handmade businesses all vying for a place in your heart.

So, grab a cup of tea, coffee or block of chocolate (no judgment here), sit back, browse and shop until your little heart is content.

Happy Shopping and happy Creating!

Initially my why was to add an income into the household whilst caring for our 3 children but that very quickly changed. The more I immersed myself and learnt the ropes about the handmade industry the more I realised time, support and networking have a massive role to play in creating a successful small handmade business. Having always had a passion for helping others and possibly talking the hind leg off a donkey, I realised that creating and assisting like minded business owners was soul satisfying to me.

Why are we here? To help small handmade businesses reach above and beyond their maximum potential whilst providing lovers of all things handmade the perfect platform to purchase, admire or have a go themselves of the things they love.
